Personal Licence Course – What is it?
Personal Licence Course – The Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders is the essential award for those working in the licensed trade. Under the Licensing Act 2003, all sales of alcohol must be made by or authorised by a personal licence holder. To apply for a licence a person must hold an accredited qualification.
Personal Licence Course – Who needs it?
If you are an owner or manager of a licensed premise that is retailing alcohol, at least one person must hold a personal licence and be the designated premises supervisor although many establishments have more than one personal licence holder including assistant manager, supervisors, team leaders and bar/sales staff. Establishments that may need personal licence holders include
- Restaurants
- Pubs/Nightclubs
- Off Licences
- Supermarkets
- Theatres/Cinemas
- Florists (selling alcohol)
About the Course
Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holder
This qualification is aimed at anyone who wishes to work in licensed premises where alcohol is sold. You will look at licensing authorities; at the responsibilities of the personal licence holder; police powers; rights of entry; specific prohibitions; strengths of alcoholic drinks; responsible retail of alcohol; and the protection of children from harm.
On completion of this course, candidates will hold a licensing qualification with which they can apply for the Personal Licence.
Anyone who authorises the sale of alcohol to the public (as per the legal requirement in England and Wales) is required to have a suitable qualification.
The course is aimed at those over 18 years old.
Candidates should be at least a level 1 numeracy and literacy or equivalent
In order to sit the exam, all candidates must present a valid form of ID as shown below
The Personal Licence Course is assessed by Multi-Choice Exam
Candidates answer 40 multi-choice questions under exam conditions. To achieve a pass mark the candidate needs to score a minimum of 28 out of 40 (70%)
The Personal Licence Course is normally delivered in one day (approx 6hours teaching)
Candidates are allowed up to 1 hour to complete the examination which takes place at the end of the course
